Native Spanish Varieties

Award category description

From Godello to Garnacha, Albariño to Tempranillo & Verdejo to Bobal, Spain is a treasure trove of wine styles that are perfect wine list heroes.

This category will celebrate Spain’s importance as a gastronomic powerhouse to rival neighbours Italy and France, showcasing its modern winemakers and premium fine wines. Wines submitted may be white, rosé, red, sparkling or fortified.

Judges welcome wines made from all native grape varieties, those indigenous to Spain. This may include rediscovered ancestral and rare varieties such as Forcada, Moristel or Loureiro.

Focusing on wines that are best enjoyed at the table, the Sommelier Edit Awards presents pertinent categories that reflect wine list buying decisions and offer its sommelier judges perfectly targeted selections.

As business trading conditions become increasingly challenging, sommeliers have become key gatekeepers in the wine market. This is the ideal opportunity to get your wines in front of the UK’s hospitality elite.”
